4th May 2023 Planet Leasing Staff

The Kings Coronation

The coronation of King Charles III takes place on Saturday 6 May, kicking off a long weekend of events and celebrations in the UK. The coronation is being held at Westminster Abbey, hundreds of thousands of people are expected to head to central London for the occasion. Due to the Coronation this means that Monday the 8th of May is Bank Holiday to celebrate the event.

What does this mean for Travel

A bank holiday in the UK usually means increased traffic on the roads due to many people taking advantage of the long weekend to travel. This can lead to congestion and delays, particularly on popular routes and around tourist attractions. It's important to plan your journey in advance, allow extra time for potential delays, and be prepared for increased traffic on the roads. Additionally, it's crucial to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, such as speed limits and traffic signals, to ensure the safety of yourself and other road users.

Here are 5 tips to consider if you are planning on driving on a Bank Holiday

  • Plan ahead:
Before you set off on your journey, plan your route in advance and check for any road closures or construction that might cause delays. Use a navigation app or website to help you find the best route.

  • Avoid peak times:
If possible, avoid travelling during peak times, such as Friday evening or Monday afternoon. Consider leaving early or late to avoid the rush.

  • Be prepared:
Bring snacks, drinks, and entertainment for the journey, especially if you're travelling with children. Also, make sure your car is in good condition and has enough fuel for the trip.

  • Take breaks:
Driving for long periods can be tiring, so take regular breaks to stretch your legs and refresh yourself. Plan stops at service areas or other rest stops along the way.

  • Be patient and cautious:
Expect traffic and potential delays, and be patient if you encounter them. Keep a safe distance from other vehicles, obey traffic laws and signals, and avoid aggressive driving. Remember, arriving safely is more important than arriving quickly.
